Michael Jackson Thriller

Michael Jackson Thriller

Michael Jacksons famous music video ‘Thriller’ was written by Rod Temperton and produced by Quincy Jones. It was released on January 23, 1984 by Epic Records.
Director John Landis said: ‘My idea was to make this short film with conversation in the beginning - I like having a beginning and a middle and an ending, which would follow a story.’ He followed Todorovs theory of Equilibriums. Michael Jacksons ‘Thriller’ did receive some criticism for its dark theme and violent imagery. But the video was immediately popular and received high critical acclaim, being nominated for six MTV Video Music Awards in 1984 and winning three.

The music video was heavily inspired by horror films of the 1950s. The lyrics contain frightening themes and elements. In our music video the song by Florence And The Machine, also contains frightening themes such as ‘bloodied feet’ and ‘hallowed ground’ which is lyric’s from the song Howl. Because ‘Thriller’ was such a famous video I researched it and I found the idea of the ending where Michael bites his girlfriend very interesting. This inspired us to create a similar ending where the performer charlotte has her fangs in like Michael Jackson and bites her boyfriend. We made it quirky so that it uplifted our audience after our intense video which we thought made it seem more enjoyable.
